About Sammy

Hello, my name is Samantha (aka Sammy) Fenigstein and I am a Scarsdale, NY High School Junior. 

 

In addition to my love for Softball, Trombone and the NY Mets, I am passionate about helping the environment.  I have supported a number of sustainability initiatives within Scarsdale and Westchester County for many years such as participating in our town's Food Scrap Recycling Program, Compost Give-Back Days and Plastic Bag & Film Recycling.

I started the Skip the Straw Scarsdale campaign because I wanted to show that businesses and individuals can have a big environmental impact through small, easy and cost-effective changes and actions. 

​

My goals are:

• To create an awareness campaign and pledge program that can easily be adopted by businesses and individuals 

• To have a lasting impact on my community and the environment through the elimination of single-use disposable items such as straws

• Having the Skip The Straw movement grow by allowing others to copy and use everything on my site in their community!
